This is the Point Loma Lighthouse Originally the light house was built in this location, on top of the cliffs overlooking the bay in 1855. Unfortunately often the clouds from the Marine layer covered the illumination from the light house and a number of ships sank anyway. So later, in 1891 a new lighthouse was constructed and is maintained today by the US Coast Guard down 422 feet lower at the base of Point Loma.

And There's Carole again, I'll bet she has a key to that place...;-) Below is a picture of the current Lighthouse located at the base of the cliff and currently maintained by the U.S Coast Guard. Rough duty huh?
